I just bought an AW7 to use in conjunction with my current AW4. I’ve recently started monitoring my sleep, and having two watches eases the charging… whichever one I’m not wearing is getting charged.

I use the health app to set my sleep/wake times and monitor my sleep. I also use a 3rd party app (Sleep Watch).

I have a trivial problem and hope there is an easy solution. In the morning, the Health App will trigger the watch to wake you with a gentle soothing sound, and tapping on your wrist. After I shut off the alarm on my watch, I still hear the alarm because the 2nd watch (the one on the charger) also goes off.

Question: Is there a way to automatically have just the watch on your wrist generate the alarm?

You make it sound like charging takes a great deal of time. I find that my S6 charges in just over an hour. My routine is to take it off and charge whenever my activity circles fill up, usually sometime in the evening. Put it back on when it charges to 100%, wear it to sleep and don't think about it again until next evening, when my circles fill up again. At that point I usually have around 20-30% battery left. Of course, other people may use up their battery faster depending on how they use their watch.

Just a thought...

Could you use the same one for sleep every night? If so, in the Watch app settings, under Sleep, you could toggle on "Track Sleep with Apple Watch" on the one for sleep and toggle off the other. Then the sleep one would be the only one with the alarm.

This has to be a bug since the one on your charger is not an active watch it shouldn’t allow alarm to ring. Check watch app on iPhone before you go to bed to make sure the one on charger isn’t checked on.

Exactly same routine for me too.

Well im right with him on this one!
I do 3 hours of training my battery would go down to 30% and that’s at 11:00am. Battery health is at 81%. No way it can last the whole day. So have to charge 1 hour then if i wanna use the sleep tracking feature i would have to charge it in the morning again. That’s just bonkers!!! It was just non sense to me. Now with 2 watches i use one during the day S7 and S4 at night. Works really well and i don’t need to micro manage my charging time.

That's the S4 right? I remember with my S4 I had to charge it twice a day, once before bed and once in the morning. But when I switched to S6, I found I only need to charge once a day, like I described in my previous post. Try just using the S7 all day, and see what happens.

Yes that’s with the S4 with battery health at 81%
With S7 and fast charging and battery health at 100% it’s not that bad. But now i want AOD which will hit the battery lol Im glad i have the S4 as backup for sleep tracking

Gotta ask, how are you seeing the battery health of your Apple Watch? Is this a third party thing as as far as I know battery health is only shown for iPhones.

Edit: Nevermind, I found it, when did they add that to Apple Watches?

Settings battery -> battery health

Thanks. I just turned it off. I suspect things will be good tonight. :)

Originally, I was just planning to use my AW4 for sleep, and my AW7 for the day. I wanted sleep support turned on both watches in case I forgot my old AW4 at home during a trip.

However, I decided that it is useful to check my SpO2 overnight, and my AW4 doesn't have blood oxygen support. So now, I just use my AW4 while I am charging my AW7. Since I normally wear my AW7 all day and night, I would never leave it behind during a trip.

It wasn't connected. Every morning, the alarm has been on both watches. As I just reported, I have now decided to wear my AW7 at night (for SpO2 monitoring) so I shut off the alarm on the AW4.

Had the same problem here. This tip fixed it, but was hoping there was another way. Thanks for the great tip!

I tried this tip yesterday, but it didn't work for me. It seems the "Track Sleep with Apple Watch" is a global setting. When I set/clear the setting, it seems to apply to both watches.

Now what I do, is when I go to sleep, I just shut down my AW4 completely. I am actually not wearing my AW4 for very long, just first thing in the morning for 20 minutes or so, and again in the evening while my AW7 charges before bed. Both times is to top-off my AW7. It otherwise sits on the charger all day long.

I feel like I could easily get by with just one watch, but I own both and this removes any worries about charging a watch that I am using day and night.

Fast charging on the S7 is a game changer. Can’t believe how quick it juices up. Charge it while in the shower, eating dinner, or taking a dump and it should easily add enough to see you through the day/night.

Jumping in to this old thread as I just started the two watch lifestyle. I find this whole thing buggy:

  • I use the stock Apple apps for this
  • I want to set the sleep wake on my phone, but I can’t because it’s a crapshoot which watch will use the alarm (if I’m not wearing it then it’s out loud like I’m trying to avoid)
  • I found that if I set a later wake time on the watch I’m wearing, the alarm will go off but it will still exit sleep focus at the default time and wake me with silly activity alerts.
I doubt there is any fix forthcoming but figured I’d vent my frustration…

I think I'm going to start doing this when the new Apple Watches are released this year. I've owned Apple Watches since launch day in 2015 but have never used them for sleep tracking, because the screen gets all oily and I hate having to clean it every day. If I move my S7 to sleep duties, I can use the new watch for daytime use and not have to worry about a smudged up screen. 🙄 Silly, I know.

Had this same problem. I ended up just giving up on using the one watch for sleep.

A few months later, I got the Ultra and use it for my day and night watch.
