two iphone 4 randomly turn off

So my parents both have an iphone 4 and i recently updated them to ios6. Last night the battery level on one was 52% and 90% for the other. When they woke up (late because the alarm didn't go off!) they noticed that BOTH had randomly switched off. They plugged them in to the wall charger and the battery was completely drained!

Does anybody have any suggestions? :)
