My wifes phone (32g) works fine on my laptop running XP. My identical phone can not be recognized as a camera in My Computer like hers can and like it used to. I searched around and found out I need to delete the driver for my phone. When I do that my computer crashes. If I delete it when her phone is plugged in, it works fine. Meaning, when I plug hers back in, the driver reload up as they should.

How do I get my phone to be recognized again on my computer?

Mine syncs with the computer just fine. I just can't find it in "my computer" so I can grab my pics and videos.

The issue seems like it's my phone and the drivers, but i am clueless with this stuff.

Give a DFU restore a try.
Does your phone do the same thing no matter what computer you plug it in to or just that particular Laptop on Windows XP?

DFU means what?

I really only use it on this machine. My ultimate goal here is to get everything over to my desktop that is running vista. My laptop is very unstable and I just want to tie up some loose ends on there before I retire it completely. I just dont know how to get all my pictures and video off the phone before I move it over.

You can get pictures (and maybe video) off using Sharepod.

Im asking to see if it does the same thing on other computers also then its a problem with that particular iphone software.
All your pictures and videos should be saved in your itunes library. Save them on an external drive and move them to the new computer.

It does not show up in "my computer" in my vista desktop either, my wife's does.
