I am getting a pro and air. What steps can I take to make them identical can they share the same phone number?

According to my ChatGPT query-
  • Some carriers offer “NumberSync,” “Digits,” or “Twin SIM” options. These let multiple devices share one number and both can ring simultaneously. Support varies by carrier and region.
So it appears it may be Carrier specific.

Carrier-specific, yes.

For US, I don't think any carriers support NumberSync for iPhone-iPhone, but they do support iPhone-Apple Watch&iPad.

Curious, what carrier do you have? AT&T limits NumberSync on wifi-calling to 4 or 5 devices, iirc. This feature allows calls as long as the device has internet. No need to be connected to the same wifi network.

My carrier is Verizon in the US but I use Bluetooth and WiFi for sharing my number - just can't do it on another iPhone.

Apart from Apple Watch, I think you might be referring to the regular "Calls on other devices" feature when connected to the same network. There's no device limit for that.

With NumberSync, when I forget my iPhone at home, I can still answer or make phone calls on my cellular iPad mini or iPad Pro.

Looks like Verizon calls it Number Share.

You can't as covered above in the US.

If you were using a Mico-SIM then you could move it to your Active iPhone. In the US with an e-SIM most carriers allow you to move an e-SIM a couple of times but not often enough to support what you appear to be wanting to do.

I think the last time Apple used a micro SIM was the iPhone 4S. The ones that still have physical SIM use nano.

But yes, with eSIM, the carriers might block you if you swap eSIMs frequently.
