do I need a Airport Extreme for them both to use the same hard drive as a time machine target?

Currently only my iMac is setup to a back up device.


Also.. my iMac is of the 7600GT generation (white 2.16 c2d) - can it use the faster speeds supported by the new AE base stations?

You're on IEEE 802.11g. I don't believe there's an upgrade available for 802.11n
