Two monitors running on a macbook?

How can I run two monitors on a macbook? If I use a splitter my assumption is it will degrade the resolution. Am I right? Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

i use the evga uvplus 16, it was like 70 bucks. a lot of people will tell you to get the matrox dual head 2go, but it is much more expensive

What about processing power? Does the EVGA unit make your fans go crazy?
