two monitors with one keyboard

I have a 27 inch iMac 10.7 OS, and a 24 inch 10.6 OS. They communicate wirelessly with Wifi.

I want to control both computers with one keyboard and mouse.
I tried with "synergy" and failed.

I realize I can control the other with the Appple screen share, but I prefer to control both with one mouse and keyboard.

Can anyone help? How to?

Btw, "two Macs with one keyboard" is clearer than "two monitors", as one Mac can be run with two/three monitors.
