Getting a Mac Pro and this is the final decision I have to make.

I thought it was an obvious choice to go with the ATI but I have been reading some negative stuff on the forums that is confusing me.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Two Nvidia or one 4870 -- what kind of question is that? Crossfire and SLI both don't work on mac pros, so i don't understand why you're making this comparison.

I went from a GeForce 8800 to Radeon 4870, and here's what i've noticed..
Radeon 4870 is much faster for gaming (TF2 via Crossover)
Radeon 4870 is noticably louder at idle. I would still describe it as "quiet", however
Radeon 4870 causes QuickTime/iTunes to crash when the screensaver starts

In extreme general, nvidia tends to follow intel while ati is amd (they are owned by the same company, amd and ati), meaning nvidia tends to be right on the line of power consumption and performance, meaning they arn't the top top top, however they are quieter, have a longer life span, etc.
