First I set up using the iPhone-to-iPhone transfer. After doing this, it said it was "uploading" all of my images (33,000+) to iCloud, even though they are already there. To add to that, it said it could not back up my phone because I needed to upgrade my iCloud plan from the 200GB plan I have to a 2TB plan... So I'm not sure what it was calculating but everything seemed wrong.

So I set up again using the old iCloud method. Did this just fine, except my Messages app has the "Downloading Messages from iCloud" bar that's been going on for over a day now with no progress. And my photos app has said "Downloading 34,515 Originals" with no progress as well. What is going on?

One of the these two options often fix these type of sync hangups for me:

1. In the Settings app, go to iCloud and you'll see all your settings with toggle switches (Calendar, Contacts, Messages, FindMyiPhone, etc). Toggle off the problem app (recommend doing one at a time, like Messages first). Reboot the phone. Go back to the setting and toggle it on again.

2. Sign out of your iCloud account on all devices that are syncing your photos and messages. Then sign back into them.

First option is usually easier and less intrusive, so listed it first. These sync problems are a huge nuisance so wish you good luck.
