With an airport express, is it possible to plug a splitter into it and run sound to two separate speakers systems through airplay? They would both be the harmon kardon soundsticks, which are a powered 2.1 system. It would be awesome to have a wireless surrond sound effect.

You can use an analog 3.5mm splitter to get the same output to two different systems sure. If you want to send two audio streams (different sounds to each system), you can't.

It wouldn't even be surround sound. It would just be the left and right channel in front and behind you. Why not look into a wireless 5.1 system? Most have just have wireless rear speakers and there are some inexpensive systems out there.

Well I'm trying to avoid spending 200+ for the express and 2nd set of speakers just to find it doesn't work.

It shouldn't be a problem to have both sets of speakers playing the (same) splitted output. How long will the cables be?

...in worst case, you could get an extra Express, that will certainly work ;)
