Since not long after I upgraded to 10.5.5 I have had a multitude of issues with syslogd chewing up processor time. I ran the combo updater, which fixed things for a while, but now it seems as though syslogd is consistently using 90% of my CPU time.

Now today, suddenly, when I open Terminal it hangs for 2-3 seconds with "Terminal - login" at the top of the window before I get a command prompt, whereas before this was practically instantaneous. In addition, I no longer see the prompt telling me when my last logon was and from where the logon occured. Anyone know what might be up with that and how I can fix it?

My specs, if it helps:

Early 2008 MacBook Pro 15"
2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
200GB 7200 RPM HDD
