Type in a directory?

I'm interested to know whether there's a way type in a directory (e.g. /Users/johndoe/Desktop) in Leopard, besides in the terminal. Ideally I'm thinking of something that could be entered in a finder window for quick navigation, but a simple keystroke would work too.

Do any of you know of such a feature?

I'm running KDE on an old iMac and I've been spoiled by Konqueror.
