type on a picture

has anyone found an easy way to type name on to pictures for a slide show. I have about 100 slides to do this to and I am looking for a freeware program to do it with

Preview has a text annotation tool that will allow you to add notes to a PDF file. If you need your file in another format, you can "save as" to various formats including jpeg.
