Typical Start-up time

I just switched from a PC to MBP a few days ago. The first few times I started the MBP up, it was ready to go quickly. It is now taking several minutes. I've added about 300 photos, a 6 min. home video, and the start of a website since I got the MBP. Is this a typical start up time?

Several minutes? No. Most likely you installed some updates via Software Update as the system suggested and that caused the reboot to take some time.

Mine takes on average around 40seconds.

Hmmm strange. My relatively new MBP takes just under 40 seconds to boot-up.

Yep, pretty much the same for my new MBP 2011
