Typing problems with Classic supported apps

When I am typing in two programs supported by classic (Outlook Express email and MacMoney), I have a recurrent problem with letters, numbers and spaces repeating themselves.

I have used MacJanitor, disk utility and Applejack to try and correct this problem, but to no avail.

I am currently using OS 10.4.11

Have you checked the key repeat rate? My dad was having this exact issue, and it turned out the key repeat rate was just set very high, so the system was coughing up double-characters when he pressed the keys even a bit too slowly. I forget if Classic has its repeat rate set separately in the Control Panel or if it pulls the setting from OSX, but you might check both.

Could also, theoretically, be the keyboard--I've heard of that as well--though it seems like it would be in everything, not just Classic. If you have a spare keyboard around, you might swap it in and try it to confirm.
