Ubuntu live CD not recognized?

Hey, I recently switched to a PC, and would like to add a Ubuntu partition to my MacBook, but Disk Utility can't verify the iso file, and the live CD won't show up at all, pressing Opt, C or in Disk Utility. I've never installed, but I've used Fedora before and would like to fiddle with Linux some. Any ideas?
