Hello everyone,

I have bought a book in which an Ubuntu Live CD is included. It is a custom copy, to be able to follow the book's tutorials.
The case is that when I try to boot it, it gives me the error "/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off".
I really need this partiular copy of Ubuntu to work... Does somebody know of a fix? Btw, I am a total beginner when it comes to Linix & the console.
The machine I am trying to get it working is a MacBook 2.4Gh bought in Aug 2008.
Thanks in advance,
~Virginia

Your best bet is to download the latest live CD. The one included with the book is probably quite old and unlikely to support the modern hardware in your MacBook.

What version of Ubuntu is the book based on?

I am not sure, but the book was published this year. I think the version of Ubuntu is from fall 2007.

Is there anyway to "extract" the customized files from the CD?

Thank you.
