You need to attempt dfu until you're successful. It doesn't sound as though you reached dfu.

What do you mean by "restore download then disappear?" can you elaborate on that one?

well once i went into recovery or dfu and got the message that the restore was need i would click restore and update, go thru the next few steps, it would download the system update or whatever and then do nothing. the download would just disappear from itunes

you may be right and probably are. i held my home and sleep buttons for 10 seconds and get a black screen on phone and restore needed message in itunes so i assumed i had it

Like eastercat said, are you sure you're in DFU? What do you see when you're in DFU?

Just to check:

If you're getting a black screen and itunes recovery popup, it should be in dfu..are you releasing the sleep button after 10 sec still holding the home?

Holding just the home and sleep buttons will do a hard reset.

its not recognizing its even connected now! what have i done

I'm doing a bit of research into this problem at the minute. Seems like DFU mode is a must for escaping 'The loop', although not everyone has been successful with this.

Have you tried re-jailbreaking/putting the device in DFU mode from within Absinthe?

ok im no where near as smart as you guys so please tell me how to put it into dfu from within absinthe.... as far as re-jailbreaking... its not finding the device is plugged in now but before it would tell me the device is already jail broken and i didnt have any other options

Lol, atm I know as much as you do - much easier when you have it in front of you :)

Ok then forget that, so right now if you try DFU you don't get anything pop-up in iTunes?

I think you should pre-dl the ios version you're going to install.
Less chance of anything disappearing.
