Ok, kind of in a position of not knowing what to do here...
I have a very faithful MBP (2.4Ghz 2GB RAM, 256MB 8600M GT, 500GB HDD) which to date I've used non-stop since I've bought it, it has been such a reliable machines.
I'm in the position now where I do really high end graphics (on CentOS, mainly GeoQuad Geospatial rendering, so boot camp works well) and the machine needs a little more power.
Was wondering it would be worth updating to 8GB of DD2 RAM or the other option would be to buy an Alienware M11x with a 1GB graphics card and 8GB of RAM and put in only CentOS (I really don't have any need/use for W7).
The more preferable option would be to update to 8GB if possible, I don't really want to fork out some cash for a new system....
Thoughts? Can my Mac use at least 6GB of the 8GB without crapping itself?
