I have two identical 27" iMacs, 2010, quad core i7. One was acting up, erratic behavior. I thought it was hd or ram. It was shut down normally for a month. Today I tried to start it up but first reseated ram. I got the dreaded single beep...no ram. They may be 2011. Both have two slots.
So, I took the good ram from the sister iMac and tried it again. Same thing. single beep. I took the good ram back out and put it back in the good sister Mac. now I get the same beep. neither ram works in either iMac.
Could the iMac be eating ram? My idea is to replace the ram in the good iMac. But it seems like an expensive test to replace ram in the other.
I could use a little advice.
Both macs fine: faulty operator was the problem. There ARE four ram slots and I had the ram in the bottom two. The problem with the one was the HD. I replaced it (that was fun) and it runs like new. PHEW.
