Electronista just posted this:

Palm's flagship Pre may be delayed at least within the company. A claimed design engineer source speaking to TinyComb says the phone is "officially" delayed but doesn't say whether this will involve any delays in the public launch schedule.

WARNING single sourced rumor. so take it with a pound of salt

If this true, Palm is dead quicker then I already thought they would be dead.

A delay would be abs. devastating as would a price over $149. With the iPhone 3 possibly showing up in the same June timeframe that the pre was rumored to ship by, and the massive reduction in revenue palm reported recently...coupled with a possible apple price reduction if the iphone 3... coupled with the fact that, it will only be on Sprint until 6 months AFTER the pre ships...

you get the picture...

Insert the funeral theme here for the Pre and Palm....

Guess that HTML / Javascript "os" is more complicated then they thought...
:p

I disagree.

As long as they start shipping by fall of 09 I think they will be ok.

They will also be priced at and/or higher than the iphone. so $199 minimum. The palm guy was insulted at the thought of selling such a 'superior' device at a lower cost.

They won't be skyrocketed into iphone fame instantly, but from what I've seen the pre is at the potential to be on the level of the iphone, or even (dare I say it) better?

Now do I think the pre will sell more phones than the iphone anytime soon? no. Probably not ever. But they will do well. It's a tremendous phone and the market will recognize that.

Wasn't the Storm supposed to be really great?

If it were fall and they did not have a 6 month agreement with sprint I would agree. But you are now talking 2010 before people outside of sprint could buy one.

But that sprint exclusivity thing IMO is not going to get people to switch in any numbers like the ATT had with its iphone effect.

I had not realized a palm exec said that... man that is not good news. a price reduction would be a key difference, but even at $150 I would say not enough of a diff compared to what you get with the iphone.

My prediction:

a $99 PRE 3 month rollout price HEAVILY subsided by both just to keep from falling off the earth this summer... assuming they make this summer as a ship date.

But thankfully, they do have the Palm Pre API "manual"...

No. It was to inform people about a rumor that the pre might be delayed.

Funny how a HTML book pic is taken as "bashing"... wasn't me or this thread that based their OS around it, it was Palm./
