So my MP has been acting oddly, waking itself up with whirring fans for no reason and such.

I did some diagnostics, and this came back with Disk utility:

Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Checking volume information.
Invalid volume free block count
Invalid volume free block count
uld be %@ instead of %@)",2)

Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair

will that Fix easily with a DVD boot and repair disk? Or am I in for something a little more heavy?

The DVD should fix it.

Either boot from the DVD and use Disk Utility, or boot into single user mode (hold CMD-S on boot) and type fsck -f at the prompt. Keep running the command until the Mac stops reporting 'The file system was modified', then type reboot to ...err.... reboot. You should then be fine
