Just got a letter from Apple about the warrenty expiring in a couple of weeks... But I HAVE APPLE CARE... Boxes and everything.
At first I thought it was some generic letter that they sent to everyone [Got an email too], but it has my serial number and date of expiration...

What to do?

I'm going to assume from your confusion that you bought your computer about a year ago, and thus have two remaining years on your AppleCare. I guess I'd just call them and explain they've made a mistake; it should be reasonably easy to clear up. If you've got the boxes and it's not yet activated, you're fine. If it has been activated, you're covered as well. No worries.

Did you register your Applecare?

I remember calling and they said I was [I think I even posted on these forums wondering why the applecare box only has a CD and a pamphlet], but it there any way I could check?

EDIT: Thanks dejo, checking...

So apparently I am...

Did you remember paying for AppleCare when you bought your computer?

I'd say you've got nothing to worry about then, probably a mix up in the system somewhere.

Even so, probably best to call and make sure. Couldn't hurt, and could end up saving a lot of trouble down the road.

I just checked mine, and had a brief moment of panic as well. My .mac account username (which I've only recently purchased) doesn't seem to be linked to the username I used when I signed up. When I put in the username I used originally (for things like iTMS) it shows up as being registered. So, if you've used multiple email addresses with Apple in the past, it might be worth it to try each of them.

Cheers.

pfft My Applecare expired On March 3rd and on March 8th or so My Superdrive failed completly!!

I Had it replaced in Aug last year too... they must have put in a refurbished old one.

(1) AppleCare is a MUST for portables. If you even think of keeping your notebook for more than one year, the $300 will pay for itself in practically one repair down the road, guaranteed.

(2) Just because you bought the box, DOES NOT mean that you have AppleCare! The web based Apple Store began an 'auto-enroll' program in 2005 that would enroll the AppleCare before shipping. There HAVE been problems with this system. If you bought and received a separate you MUST enroll your AppleCare enrollment manually online.

i'm about to buy a MBP...should i get the extended 3 yr applecare??? is it worth it?

Nope, you might wish to explore other extended warranty options. Your Applecare will be voided the moment a single dent or scratch shows up on your laptop, and we all know how Apple loves to deliberately make such fragile computers
