i think desaturation is available with Core Image, but since Core Image isn't available on the iPhone, hackish routes must be sought...

i have a color image that i want to desaturate over time. at first i though i'd just have two of the same images, one color and the other black and white. color image would be above the black and white layer and would simply loose opacity over time, revealing it's underlaying black and white image and achieving the effect of desaturation over time.

but... (dun dunn dunnnnn)... my image is already slightly transparent in order to see the other background images behind it, so the above trick would not work without making the overall image appear much darker.

is there any way to achieve desaturation of a slightly transparent image over time on the iphone?
