iOS uiscrollview picker

this is probably really simple but I don't even know what to search for.
i hate the default uipicker- all i want is a series of labels that slide back and forth (with some sort of clear center) so that the labels lock themselves into a grid when the user lets go, and one label rests in the center.
i imagine the best way for this to be done is with a uiscrollview and a pagecontrol (except all of the labels should be showing even when they are not selected), though I may be completely wrong.
how should this be done?

Isn't that exactly what the UIPicker does?

except I didn't want it to look anything like a uipicker.

I googled for about a half an hour first...then i ran into it while looking up something tangential.
