UK - 3GS Locked to Swiss Network

Hi,

A friend from Switzerland genorously sent me his old iPone 3GS, on baseband 05.16.02, ios 4.3.5

The phone is locked to his Swiss provider.

Is there anything i can do with the phone? Would apple store be able to do anything or is it a case of sell it to a phone recycling place and move on?

Don't want to upgrade to ipad baseband as i would like to use the GPS.
