Quiet and reliable are a must. Cheap makes it all the sweeter. For a Mac Pro.

Dabs.com have:

• 750gb Seagate Barracudas for £121
• Western Digital Caviars 500gb £84.48

The Samsung Spinpoint drives are known to be quiet and reliable, and generally cost around the £60 mark for 500Gb. I've got two in a media center machine, and can't hear them at all. :)

When buying new drives, I often look at the leaderboard on Storagereview.com and see what their current favourites are.

For UK prices I look at google.co.uk/products and computerprices.co.uk,
amazon, and ebuyer.

Hope that helps.

Seconded. Search for product code HD501LJ. Go to storagereview and loook at the benchmark for idle noise to see the difference.
