Hello,

I have an iPhone 2G that was purchased earlier this year and I never activated it; I unlocked and jailbroke it instead and everything has been fine so far.

Last week I got a new iPhone 3G on O2-UK by renewing my contract.

What I am trying to do now is to legitimately activate the 2G phone with a pay & go card, in order to give it as a gift to my sister. The thing is that when I try to activate it through iTunes, I get an error message saying this phone cannot be activated.

I can always unlock and jailbreak it again, but I would like to take advantage of the legit activation since it is (or at least should be) still under warranty and since it did present some battery issues, I could be eligible for a replacement as I was told at Apple store.

Does anyone know what my options are at this point?

Many thanks and happy New Year to everyone.

Unlock it, jailbreak it. If it develops issues, restore to stock firmware and take it in. Your warranty will still be good.
