I'm taking my O2 iPhone 3G to France. If I turn off data roaming, will I still be able to use Maps? Will it cost me anything?

Are there any solutions to using the iphone abroad?

Many thanks

Peter

I found out today that the GPS is free, but the maps use the data plan (which i already new)!

There are no solutions to using an iPhone aboard without getting a massive bill just from calls and SMS.

Im currently in Australia with my Unlocked 2G iPhone so i just got a Pay & Go sim.

Best bet is just not to use it unless you want a big bill :)

EDIT: ignore italic bit
you can add an unlimited international data plan to the iphone for £7.50 a month... this can afaik be added and removed at any time, but dont quote me on that

maps does download data, therefore costs money

Would love to know where you got this "unlimited international data" idea from. The O2 website says:

If you are planning a holiday or travelling on business, why not take advantage of our Data Roaming Bolt Ons. Depending on your planned data usage abroad, you can select from the following options:
Data Abroad 10: £20 per month for 10MB of data
Data Abroad 50: £50 per month for 50MB of data
