Heyy i just got my iPhone last night from teh apple shop in Glasgow :D:p
i luv it:D
just one question when will we be able to make ringtones on iTunes
Cheers :confused::D:p;):apple:

I've just been looking to do the same. However, there is no option to add the ring tones column in iTunes. Guess we're waiting for it to be switched on.

Yup looks like iTunes don't allow us UK folks to create ringtones yet!! I have a ringtone button at the left on iTunes but it does nothing.

Lets hope Apple/iTunes get it sorted out soon:D

Just opened iTunes - and I was given an alert that said I can Create ringtones bla bla bla - Do you want iTunes to check what tunes can be created into ringtones

I said YES - But I still can't create - DOH

Ok just talked to Apple....

See below.......

Why bother waiting when iToner works ???
It doesn't hack the phone so you've got no warranty worries. Plus you're not paying for the tune again a la iTunes !

Ringtones

Hi mate,

I just followed your link to open up the ringtones page in the uk but there were no ringtones listed, am I missing something?

I have tried about four different programs to try and get my own ringtones on my iphone but non of them have worked and it is starting to really annoy me now.

I have tried SendSong, itunes, iphoneringtonemaker and a couple more which I cant even remember now. I have even paid $14.95 for 'iphoneringtone maker' and followed all of the instructions but cant get a ringtone on my iphone.
I have itunes version 7.5 and iphone frimware version 1.1.1 which is unlocked and jailbroken. I am also using a Windows Vista PC.

Can you help at all?

Cheers!

trust me on this, i followed the guide to see if the "change .m4a to .m4r " tutorila worked and it did. if you dont know what im talking about heres how you do it.

edit your song down to 30 seconds or their abouts
convert to acc
change file extension from .m4a to .m4r, any warning messgaes clikc ok
then it should open under ringtones in itunes
there you go, free ringtones for all

Hi Smog,

I can see the ringtone in itunes but it is in my 'music' section in the library as an 'acc' file. I can also see the ringtone on my iphone but it is in the songs section of the ipod player. I cannot get the ringtone into my 'ringtones' section of either the library, the 'ringtones' tab of my iphone on itunes, or the ringtones section of my iphone in settings - sounds - ringtones.

I dont seem to be able to change the file extension properly, when I tried it before it showed up as having two extensions like - 'm4a.m4r'.

I have ticked the view extensions in my folder views but I dont think I am doing something right. How do I change the file type when the file is in itunes, when I right click on the file there is no option to do this?

Any ideas?

If you're using OSX:

Find the file in the finder, get info, then where it says "file information", get rid of the '.m4a.m4r' and just type '.m4r'

Then copy that file, and delete it from the iTunes library, making sure you select "move to trash", ensuring the original file goes bye-bye... Then open the "m4r" file, and it'll install to the Ringtones sidebar in iTunes :) (If this doesn't work, then make a "ringtones" folder in your iTunes Music folder, drag it into there and open it) :)

I've downloaded iToner. Now I just need some classic Nokia or Ericsson 'Ring-ring' type tones. Any ideas where I can get some (preferably for free)?

I plugged im my iphone today and it asked me if i wanted to make ringtones. Pitty none of my music can me made into an ringtone.

HOWTO: Custom Ringtones on UK iPhone (fw 1.1.2)

No sure how many people are aware of this, so I thought I'd make a post. If you want to use custom ringtones on your iphone, just edit the song you want to use in Garageband (or whatever) so its 30 seconds or less, then export to m4a, rename to m4r, double-click, sync and rejoyce :)

thanks for posting that. Just put on a custom ringtone, worked perfectly. Almost paid for iToner yesterday but their checkout didn't work, was going to try today. Glad I read your post first!:):)

'iPhoneringtonemaker' Software

Hi Guys,

I posted earlier about the problems that I was having trying to get ringtones on my iphone, I was really struggling to get it sorted.
However, rather than start renaming file extensions from m4a to m4r etc.... I bought 'iphoneringtinemaker' and installed it ok ( $14.95 ).
But because I am running itunes 7.5 and firmware version 1.1.1, I needed to also install the update version 1.4 so that everything would work fine. I thought that I had installed the 1.4 version over the 1.32 version but I was still having problems and could not get a ringtone on my iphone.
So if anyone else has this problem, make sure that version 1.4 installs over the previous version properly and then check the version by clicking on settings in the iphoneringtonemaker program.

I have now got ringtones on my iphone and am a happy bunny, however, I still cannot see the ringtones in itunes anywhere?

Cheers!

and how do you delete the ringtone when u don't want it anymore ?
also where the ringtone is going on yr computer ? in itunes ?

Either delete the ringtone from your iTunes Library, or uncheck it in the Ringtones Tab, depending what you want to do.
also where the ringtone is going on yr computer ? in itunes ?
I have iTunes set to copy when adding stuff to library, so my ringtones are stored in ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Ringtones/

Wow that's sounds unbelievable that u can do that in iTunes 7.5 and 1.1.2 FW... Maybe apple left some hole in new version of iTunes or did they really mean to give free custom rintones that ppl like? Nice to hear.

I'm skeptical to think it's a mistake as the new ringtones come up under a new 'custom' ringtones area on the iphone.

share your ringtone...??..!!

is there any way to share ringtone between us (iphone luvers) allready convertade to the right file name?
all we have to do is to import the file to itune and there you have it.new ringtones to share.
sounds like good idea to me.
