Uk Iphone with o2 PAYG/prepaid SIM

Hi,

Anyone out there tried the above ? i.e. new UK Iphone with an O2 PAYG/pre-paid SIM card as opposed to the bundled O2 sim ?

Will it work ? To be honest, I'm not at all keen with the 18 month bond with O2.

I would love to go out and buy an iPhone to get it unlocked and put my O2 prepaid SIM in.

I travel a lot to Germany, so I really need to use a German SIM with my mobile as well.

Could I just downgrade the 1.1.2 firmware to 1.1.1 and unlock it?
