Hi there, I'm hoping to get an iPhone here in the UK on the 9th November, however I cannot afford the Contract that you have to use with it, and plus I've never been a fan of contract phones anyway.
So, I just some kind of reassurance and clarification on what I plan to do, bearing in mind I've no knowledge of how the unlocking process works etc.

Here's what I assume is how it works, correct me if I'm wrong:

** I buy the iPhone from an Apple Store or similar, un-activated.
** I take it home and unlock it myself, this is where I need more help than anything, as I'm unsure of what software to use, how to do it etc.
** I can insert my Pay-As-You-Go O2 Sim Card that I use currently.

Also, does the unlock prevent me from using any of the iPhone's features, or can you just use it as normal?

I can't think of any more questions now, but I think that's all I need to know.

Thanks in advance.

This assumes that the new firmware, likely to ship with the UK iPhone, doesn't step in the way of unlocking (it'll likely make the device as hard to jailbreak as a Touch too - which is unbreakable at the moment).

Only time will tell.

Yeah, I was taking that under consideration myself anyway.

When will we know what firmware will be shipping with the UK iPhone?
