UK:O2 4.0 or O2 5.0

Just wanted to clarify is O2 4.0 the latest file or is there an O2 5.0. To check this go to sys prefs, general, about and look under carrier

I have a brand spanking new 3GS, and it says O2 4.0

My 3G says 4.0

I believe the v5.0 is the 'hacked' file, which allows for MMS. This was done prior to release of v3.0 firmware and before O2 officially allowed MMS

v4.0 works just fine. One note is in the settings,

username vertigo = compressed images in Safari
username bypass = uncompressed images in Safari
