Is anyone else having problems?
Sometimes it's really quick (compared to my old 4) and other times GPRS is quicker

It's not a problem, it's just o2's 3G is poor. They've publicly acknowledged this. It's supposedly going to improve when they merge with Vodafone but for the time being there's not much you can do.

Merge with Vodafone? When is this happening?
I am tempted to swap over the Three - the coverage around Peterborough for O2 is poor anyway.

They aren't merging, what they are doing is setting up a joint venture to run their network infrastructure. It's a 50:50 venture a bit like the T-Mobile-3UK network share set up some years ago.

Still separate networks, but will basically have identical coverage as all their masts belong to both.

AFAIK, O2 and Vodafone wil only share 4G. 3G will remain seperate.

ON the otherhand EE and 3 share 3G but not 4G.

My i5 reception/signal has been awful compared to the i4 I bad before. Same network (O2), same place of work, same home address and same activity patterns. Either the network suddenly went pants, or it's the iPhone 5. I rarely get a 3G signal unless in a city centre, and when I do get one the performance is usually poor. I've put up with this for over a year and can't wait to get my Note 4!

My iP5 signal on O2 has been terrible for 2 years. with 20 days to go on my contract i moved to three.

It is AMAZING having a phone with a usable data allowance and decent coverage!.
