Hi
I have a 3GS iOS 4.2.1. I'm thinking about getting the unit unlocked by Orange. Apparently this can be done for a small fee. I was wondering if I do get this done, would the carrier unlock be affected if I decide to update iOS from 4.2.1?

Furthermore, if I decide to jailbreak the network unlocked phone, would this have any negative effects (eg. would I have to get it unlocked again once I have jailbroken it?).

Cheers for any help!

The unlock is based on the device ID and is stored on Apples activation servers. The phone remains unlocked across restores and upgrades. No idea about jailbraking though

The small fee, in my case, was £20. I told the Orange CS guy that as a long-term and loyal customer I felt that the fee was a tad unreasonable. He agreed to credit my account with £15.
