From BBC News.

Tony Hart had a big impact on me as a kid, and I think he inspired a lot of other people of my generation to consider art as something more than boring old paintings you might see in a museum.

Shows like Art Attack and smART owe a lot to this guy - although somehow I doubt Neil Buchanan's career will last 50 years! (And obviously the smART presenter has already shuffled off this mortal coil).

He'll be sadly missed. RIP. I wonder where Morph will live now? :(

He really inspired me alot when I was a kid, my mum had many episodes of him on betamax that I used to watch, and attempt to re-create :p

Sad to see a legend go, I'm sure his legacy will go on for a long time though.

I used to love his shows when I was a little Jaffa and it really used to inspire me to draw and stuff, and I know I'm not alone in that. Sad news indeed.

As CortexRock's link mentioned, he'd been unable to draw or paint after suffering two strokes – it really must have been upsetting and frustrating for him, poor chap.

When I read about him giving up, the other month, I knew he wouldn't be around much longer.
:(

he was a legend man... used to watch HartBeat all the time...

but i was annoyed cos my picture didn't get shown in "the gallery"... :p

Hope Morph is ok though!

Lets not forget that Tony Hart gave Morph his big break - and he was the creation of Aardman Animations - who later created Wallace and Gromit.

So encouragement from Tony Hart probably gave us the loveable duo and a lot more - I paint because of Tony.

He got me into drawing, still got one of his books were you drew animals made up of shapes, along with my not so good attempts on the blank pages.
