Ultimate Macbook Service. ?

Hey guys,

I currently have a late 2007 black MacBook, but am experiencing a few issues with it.

The Macbook seems a lot slower than it once was and sounds like it's about to take off at any minute. I will be upgrading at some point in the future, but for now could do with any hints/tips you have on attempting to revive this Macbook to its former glory. Any suggestions are welcome, I am willing to spend a little bit of money if it will ensure I get a little more life out this thing.

You can repair permissions (it's a common suggestion, but is more of a placebo and won't hurt anything).

Check to see what programs launch when your user logs in.

Open activity monitor, check show processes for all users, and tell us how many are running. Is there any process that seems to be using most of your CPU?

How full is your hard drive?

How many page outs do you see in activity monitor?

What temperatures are you seeing (you can use iStat Pro to find that out)?
