Hi guys,

Just a quick report on a project I stared last year. The objective was to make an easy to use Digital Home System that is complete and can scale easily. This in less then $1000.

Although it helped many, the setting up the Harmony One was a complex process. In the end of the day, the Harmony One is a great device to use of a couple use cases, but it hinders other kinds of interaction.

So I decided to abandon the Harmony One, and moved on to an iPod + Unity Remote and a few more apps. Again, less the $1000 for the core infrastructure, Apps and Universal Remote Control. Added devices, such as personal iPhones did not count for initial budget assesment.

The results I'll be posting some videos in: http://www.youtube.com/user/easymediacenter

Demo: It shows up to 5 devices connected to the Media Center, both over 3G and Wifi streaming video and audio. Remote controlling the Media Center, Managing Media etc etc.

Media Center Setup in 10 minutes: Easier then this is not easy to get. The time could be reduced to 6 minutes if not less if I was not talking at the same time.

The next one will be about Unity Remote.

Hope we can start a discussion about how this can be improved here. Remember the price tag needs to be somewhere $1000 for the core system. Of course we could add 24 Apple TVs plus 24 Macminis with Plex installed, 24 EyeTV tunners, super remote control systems that can even make your bed yada yada yada. But this should be driven by the approach scalability rather then price. I mean, "value for money".

Cheers,

Nuno
PS: This is my first post ever on this forum. I'll be posting some question about how this can be improved in this thread. Hopefully it is ok to start mingling in this forum in this way.
