Just curious about any U2 users who've had theirs since rollout.

I've purposefully tried not to allow it to charge all night, or rather get it to realise what time I generally tend to get up each morning (6.30-40am during the week), because I didn't want to leave it to charge for those few nights constantly until it learnt the score.

Up until around May, my battery health remained at 100%. I would use it every other day or so for a workout, during that time I'd listen to a podcast on the official Apple app, or maybe Audible. I don't use a lot of third party apps apart from ADT security, FotMob etc. Then, in May it dropped to 98%. I took it to Apple because I equated that to being quite a sudden drop and though I know they all degrade over time, this seemed quite a high amount all at once. (I'd check it every few days). I did used to have the latest beta, whatever that may be, on but when I took it to Apple they (obviously) suggested removing that, which I did. I guess it's not just about charging properly, but also about the amount of 'work' the battery has to do when using betas, but I'm still a bit concerned.

I'm now on 18.1 beta for my phone (it gets changed every year) and I'm not nearly as protective about that. I leave it on all night, though of course by now it will have long ago learnt my cycle. That too is at 98%. My watch, however, recently dropped to 97. I'm not sure what else I can do to keep the battery as healthy as possible. I've even started bringing my phone with me to do the heavy lifting when I go for a run, instead of the watch, but I wanted to compare my percentage to people who are also in month 11 or so of their U2, and also what their use cases are?

Apologies if this has been asked before. I have looked but obviously this is partly a time and use question, and earlier questions won't be that relevant anymore.

Thanks

got mine at launch day, wear it non-stop from ~5:30am til ~ 8:30pm the next day, then charge it overnight on my old S0 puck (so 5W USB adapter), and I wear my S7 for sleep tracking while U2 charges. I always charge to 100%, when I put it on the charger it's ~40-45%.
Battery health: 100%

I always get AC+ for my AW, so I really don't say attention to battery health tbh.

It’s a device that is 100% dependent on battery. It’s going to degrade, it’s inevitable. And all batteries degrade at different rates. Keep optimized charging on and use it as normal. Not something that’s worth worrying about.

When I went to see someone at the Apple Store as mentioned above, they told me I could add AC+ (or certainly "Apple Care" as he stated) even though I was by that point at least 8-9mths into owning it. However, I've tried to do this and it's saying only inside the first 60 days. Is there something I'm missing?

I know that every use case is different, that yes batteries do degrade over time, and particularly something like this with a small unit compared to a phone, computer or a car (lol). But I just didn't expect to drop 3% with being so 'careful'. Considering that 3% is like 6 or even 10% of degraded capacity for a 'normal' AW (in terms of lost power, not % terms), I felt a bit annoyed that it had happened.

It's a shame there isn't a way to run Coconut Battery on the Apple Watch; if you could, you'd have see that your battery capacity has been gradually declining since new, even during the time period when the Apple battery health still said 100%. If you aren't noticing worse battery life in your day-to-day use, I wouldn't obsess about it.

One more thing: You mentioned charging practices and amount work (more/fewer discharge cycles) as things that affect battery health, but one you missed is heat. That's why running the beta software may have had a slight negative effect, but more importantly why you would want to avoid doing things that expose the watch to excessive heat, like leaving it in a hot car during a day at the beach.

I’ve had my AWU2 since December 2023, use it for MTB riding / gps / HR 3-4 times a week. Track sleep for 2-ish weeks then again in 1 month.
I’m still at 100% health, have it in optimized mode.
