Trying to decide between the Ultra 2 in Black or Natural. Seems like the natural provides more band flexibility with colors. Thoughts?

feature-wise they're the same, natural is on sale for $100+ off at like Amazon ...
I'd argue that the black offers more color choices but that's a very personal thing

Nobody can answer this for you. I personally prefer the black because the screen guard doesn't stick out as much as natural and I think darker bands look better personally.

I prefer the black color, but I think it's all up to personal taste. Pick the one you like best, not the one anybody else likes best.

The black looks really cool. The downside is it will show major scratches possibly way worse. Time will tell.

I’m raw Ti myself on an Ultra 1 and have a raw Ti band. No watch upgrades for me until they have all their health sensors back.

I'm perfectly happy with my natural Ti Ultra 2, but if I were buying today, I'd have a very tough time deciding between black and natural, especially now that there's black hardware available on Apple's Ultra bands. And the black with the new black metal mesh loop is hot.

It is but there is no way that black band holds up.

I never take my Ultra off. I have a natural Ti band with it that’s got a nice patina on it now. The band has taken a beating, but still looks good. Even $20,000 watches get scratches and wear if you actually wear them.

A black case and band? No way it would last for me under my car, at the gym, fishing. I’d have little ticks here and there to the bare metal that would stick out like a sore thumb. For lighter users the black finish will probably hold up just fine.

Over time I just don’t see how it will hold up as well in general especially with how picky people are seeing any wear at all in the ultra…..if you remember those threads after launch…

My SBSS S4 held up quite nicely for almost 3 years til its retirement, and it did not get babied…

I agree with you. I really do like the new black finish on the Ultra 2. However, I think that a black watch is limiting in band choices. I’ve got the natural titanium Ultra 2 and it pairs well with the majority of my Apple watch band collection…dating back to the AW OG.

I bought the original ultra the day it came out (I also hit a dear and totaled my car on the way back home with it). This thing doesnt have a single blemish on it and I bang it up ALOT. I really want that black one though. I wonder if the black will get blemishes.

According to this review, the black ultra 2 is DLC coated unlike the natural titanium

It’s exactly like that

I’ve had the black U2 in the cart all day but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Coming from a 7, I was drawn to the look of the black U2 and of course, Apple’s marketing had it looking stunning. But in some of the hands on videos, to me it isnt quite the pics on Apples page. Sometimes it almost resembles being in a matte black case (to me). So now I’m torn lol.

It has to be a matte or more satin color, not gloss black. Most DLC coatings that I have seen are satin not gloss. You wouldn't want gloss on a watch in my opinion. It should hold up pretty well, and is a very hard finish, but even on firearms, if you drop them on hard surfaces they will chip and scratch. Normal wear on the wrist it should do just find other than the sharp crown bezel edge I could see wearing more quickly.

It's difficult to judge the colors of all of the watches, until we get more videos and until we can see them in person. The black AWU2 looks cool - and it seems like it is clearly not as "black" as say the glossy Jet Black AW10. Is that better or worse? I don't have much black clothing, so maybe a more matte black would work better for my style. But it still probably not enough for me to upgrade from an AW1.

I’m on the fence until I see a few YouTubers test out scratching the new Ultra 2 Black coating.

If there’s a noticeable silver layer underneath, then it’s a 100% no purchase.
That’s what I am wanting to see. I’m wanting to pull the trigger to upgrade from my Ultra 1 but worry that black will scratch easily

Im waiting to sell my iPhone when my new one turns up, but I’d like to know about the scratches on the black too. I do prefer the black but if it scratches to white/lighter colours then I probably will go with the natural colour.

What I really want is the Black with the orange band.

Also does anyone know how resilient the screens are? I work in a job where watches do get bashed a lot.

Glad I didn't go with the black, look at the chip at the top at around 1:10.

EDIT: It may be that it's not a chip and the remnants of what it hit. Later there's a small mark in the same place, so it may have been cleaned off leaving a small blemish that should come off with elbow grease. Had a few instances of this with my SBSS watches where I thought I'd marked it after knocking t but the mark removable with effort.
