Just purchased the ultra three. When I push the crown button, it’s very mushy and hard to push. On my ultra two that I currently have it has a definite click feel to it. Just trying to figure out if Apple changed the switch feel with the crown or possibly a defective watch. Anyone else have the ultra three and notice when pushing in the crown, it is not a firm click.

I’ve noticed a slightly different feel to the Digital Crown most generations. The Digital Crown spins more easily on the Ultra 2 for example. I don’t have an Ultra 3, so I can’t speak to it. Just chiming in with my experience with multiple Apple Watch series and Ultras.

There is a third option…Apple didn’t change the feel and yours is normal. Perhaps your old crown changed over time. You’re comparing on old watch to a new watch, after all.

can confirm the same thing. Ultra 2 is a hard click, Ultra 3 is a mushy soft click.

Interesting, just tried my Ultra 2 and 3, yeah it’s the same for me, the 2 has a more pronounced click. Wonder the reason behind the change…. Maybe I should go to Apple Store and try the display models and see if it’s the same.

Same with my Ultra 2 vs Ultra 3. I don't mind it but its definitely different.

I've had all three Ultras and all three had different clickyness.
U1 had a more clicky crown.
U2 had a more clicky side button.
U3 has quiet both.

Similar experience as OP. My Apple Watch Ultra 2 Digital Crown button has a very nice 'click' feel similar to the side button. On my new Apple Watch Ultra 3, the button does not feel right. The Digital Crown button is mushy and there isn't a 'click'. I cleaned my Ultra 3 and it was still mushy.

It was bad enough that Apple replaced the Ultra 3. I have a new one en route via their advanced replacement.

Upgraded from a Series 9 to an Ultra 3. Crown feels very different between the two. Not in a bad way, just different. Agree with the comments here that the Ultra 3's crown button is softer, like there's more resistance pushing back against it, and the "click" is silent. Versus my series 9 which is much easier to push and has an audible "click."

Don't really care either way—as long as it works every time I press it, which it does, I'm good.

Anyone else noticing the soft or mushy crown press ? There are a few comments elsewhere online about this. Id be very interested to know if this is by design. I now can't 'un-notice' and it concerns me that it will get worse. Any kind of gym activity requiring pressure on the hands and wrist bent back risks pushing it its so soft.

I have noticed the same thing comparing my Ultra 1 to my new Ultra 3. I went to best buy today and display ultra 3 model did not have this issue. I will go to Apple store tomorrow and see what they say

I've had the AWU1 and AWU2. The AWU3 is not as "clicky" as my AWU2 was. Both my 1 and 2 would ... loudly click if I pressed on the crown, especially after not doing so for awhile (2 especially).

The 3 feels like the press is not as long as the 1 or 2 (the depression is less when pressing on the crown) - maybe that's what you're feeling?

I did not have the AWU1 but my AWU2 was a gem. My AWU3 also has a mushy crown when pressed and the orange action button has a noisy click sound where my AWU2's action button was silent.

I'll live with it.

Update: the replacement Apple Watch Ultra 3 I received is better, but still not like the Ultra 2 or any Apple Watch prior. Last week I had an Apple engineer contact me via phone and they asked numerous questions about the crown on both the original Ultra 3 and replacement Ultra 3. I'm under the impression Apple is aware there is an issue and is actively soliciting feedback from those of us that received a replacement.
