Where I am
Maybe it’s just me. But, I feel as if often I receive an iMessage, and am notified on my iPhone and macOS. However, not notified on my Ultra, no red dot even.

Now, this isn’t consistent. So, not sure why this happens. Thoughts…

Check on iPhone:

Settings->iMessage->Send & Receive and make sure your apple id email address is checked and not just your phone number.

Same here. I’m getting about 80% of incoming iMessage notifications on the UWA. Very frustrating considering that message notification is one of primary reasons why I wear an Apple Watch.

hmm.. still have occassionally a message notification on my phone, while the AWU on my wrist is unlocked and quiet . Notifications for mails and all sorts of other apps are working.

I've noticed that several times in the past, with my Series 4, and now with the Ultra as well. I can't confirm it for sure but I think that when the iMessage notification arrives to a device that you are actively using, other devices might not get it then.
For example, if I'm actively using my Mac and I receive an iMessage notification on it, my phone might not display it, even though the messages are well synced.

My Watch seems to notify me of iMessage incoming notifications only when I'm not actively using any other Apple device at this moment.

I would assume this is by design, but again, not sure.

in my case, the mac was sleeping, the iPhone lay flat on my desk and the watch on my wrist was unlocked and showed all other notifications properly..
Just with short/i-messages, i saw it repeatedly waking the phone, but the watch remained sleeping/silent. Ill wait for the 9.0.2 (or whatever comes next) and if that does not resolve this, ill un- and re-pair the watch to see, if that helps.
Btw. my S7 does not show this odd behaviour (at least at the moment ;) )

And this is what I’ve been reviewing and testing, since yesterday. I honestly think you might be into something here…

Right, my AW6 ALWAYS received the iMessage notifications despite what device I was using. Rather interesting…

OMG thank you so much for this! This was driving me crazy as I would never receive any 2FA SMS on the watch. Now it's working again!
I haven't been getting my 2FA notifications either. Sadly, this particular tweak did not change things.

This doesn't really seem like it would be an Ultra-specific issue since it's 100% software-driven. Did you have this issue with other Apple watch models?

still have issues with the notifications.. a message lets my phone ‚ding‘, while my watch remains silent.
i tried the beta.. wiped the watch and added it again as a new device.. still the same issue.
Hope, any upcoming firmware on the phone will help somehow, cause id like to avoid the complete re-setup of the iPhone
