I notice my new ultra charges super slow compared to my 6. Do I need to use a larger charger the the standard 5 watt?

It has a significantly larger battery. It’s probably charging at the same rate but needs longer.
You can use a 20W charger and the Apple fast charging cable to make it charge faster.

‘I tried to charge mine using an Apple 5 watt charging block and had to mount the charging puck multiple times before it chimed and indicated it was charging. I replaced the 5 watt block with a 12 watt block and it charged after that. Not really wanting to fast charge as I do not need fast charging and feels it will shorten the battery life.

It is definitely slower than the ordinary Apple watches unless you use the newer higher speed puck and a 20-30W charger. Tradeoff for two plus days of endurance.

I assume the higher speed puck is the USB-C ones from apple.

Every 20w brick isn't created equal, and sometimes they don't work very well at all. I've had good lucky with Belkin. I still think it was crappy for apple to stop shipping the bricks, when everyone knows apple devices can be finicky about charging blocks. The watches are worse than the phone too, both with the charging disc and the brick/block.

I can charge 30% more batter into the Ultra in about 15 minutes, and easily charge 0-100 in less than an hour. I have a belkin 20 or 24. I think its a 20 though.
