In case anyone is struggling with whether it's worth giving up the telephoto camera, I figured out how to calculate the percentage of photos you've taken with each lens (on a X/XS).
- In Mac Photos app, create a Smart Album for wide shots. The filters are "Lens", "includes", and "back dual camera 4.25mm."
- Create another Smart Album for telephoto shots. Two filters this time. First one is "Lens", "includes", and "back dual camera 6mm". Second filter is "Photo", "is not", and "portrait". (Portrait photos have the same lens type in the metadata, which isn't helpful for our purposes, so I'm excluding them.)
- Add up the photos from the two smart albums (wide and telephoto) and the "Portrait" album in the "Media Types" folder. Divide telephoto count by the total to get the percentage of your X/XS photos that are telephoto shots.
I'm at 17% telephoto shots, which may be high or low compared with other people. These smart albums also allowed me to find wide and telephoto shots taken close to each other in time to compare quality. At a first glance, it's hard to tell the difference between telephoto shots and a cropped wide shot in all but the brightest sunlight. Might be different for other people, but that's what I've found so far.
