hi guys,

Hopefully someone can help me please.

I’ve just purchased a new samsung s34j55w ultra wide monitor so I can use it as a second display for my iMac 5k (2015 model - I think?). However the resolution looks terrible and I’m unable to set it up correctly. I tried ever option I can think of. Am I missing something?

Can anyone offer me any ideas/help in setting up and getting the full resolution enabled?

Much appreciated,

Paul

How do you have it hooked up?

This monitor requires DisplayPort 1.2, HDMI 1.4 or 2.0

I have found that a MDP to DisplayPort cable generally solves a lot of problems but have not seen one of these monitors. When you look for a Thunderbolt 1/2 to DP adapter and it keeps showing MDP, it's the same thing in this context.

A 2015 iMac may have to use a 30 frame refresh rate over HDMI but DisplayPort may support 60.

Have you asked Samsung support?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your response, much appreciated.

I should've mentioned about connection etc, apologies. I'm using a mini display port adapter to HDMI with the supplied HDMI cable (guessing it's HDMI v2), perhaps this type of connector is not enough!?

I've ordered one of these connectors https://amzn.to/2XdU0pC instead, hopefully it'll make the difference and allow full resolution to be enabled? it's on same day delivery so I should find out if it's worked or not by the end of today. I'll report back here.

I've not yet contacted Samsung but I will do if this solution fails. Be a shame to send the monitor back, it looks really nice.

This is the exact monitor https://amzn.to/2WoDyFY - hopefully I've not ordered some variant of it that doesn't interface well with iMac's etc!

Fingers crossed.

Thanks again,
Paul

I'm very happy to report that the monitor is now all working correctly and looks AMAZING!!

I'm now very happy, and thanks to your advice I was able to resolve the initial issue.

Thank you.
