Do any of you know if there any scanner drivers available for Umax consumer (Astra) scanners using OSX? I am sick of switching to Classic and an old version of Photoshop to do my scanning.

Try using Vuescan. Not exactly sure if it will work with your scanner, but it's worth a shot. You can find it on versiontracker.

UMAX Astra

I have a Umax Astra Scanner with a SCSI port, does anybody knows if theres an adapter to USB or FireWire, if thers one..do u think i can use it with OSX?

thx:)

I think only the Pro level scanners are being supported on OS X by Umax in the US, and they may now charge for drivers.

The third-party support right now is doing a better job of OS X support than Umax US right now.

if there is it will cost as much as a new scanner. things like that usually cost betweeen 50-100 dollars. i would recommend getting a new epson scanner and use vuescan until epson gets there act together.

What scanners DO work with OS X? I have owned 2 UMAX scanners (USB) and they are awful. The software for OS 9 was horrible and would hang the system for several minutes, and I doubt that UMAX will release a driver for OS X. What are some exceptional scanners (USB and/or Firewire) that are supported under OS X, if any? Thanks.

thx for your response ijon, i guess i should buy a new one :( , for the moment ill keep it plugged into my 266 G3 beige tower acting as a "scanin server"

UMAX

they did start charging for it... but when they did... they only charged for it in the US... so ... if you go to the websites for other contries its a free download. or at least thats how it was when they first started charging... I dont know if they fixed that or not.
