Hi Everybody,

I managed to rip off the end of the cable that plugs into the bluetooth adapter on my Early UMBP17.

It looks like this just piggybacks from the logic board to the displa, but I can't find anyone that sells a replacement cable.

Am I correct in thinking that I just remove the cables from the display, replace with new cable and I'm good to go? If that cable is soldered to the display itself I will be pretty disappointed :(.

Thanks for the help and if you need more info please let me know,

Thanks!
Henry

send it back to apple. Once you don't leave any DNA on it as Apple probably has a CSI team on it and They probably hired gill grissom

I think you can check that at ifixit.com.

Dude you're seriously jaded and your dishonesty is appauling.

I've checked ifixit.com and I don't see that part listed unless it's included in the entire $900 display price.

Has anyone that's replaced their display noted if the cables that run along the bottom can be detached? If so I just need to find someone parting out a UMBP that got run over or something :p

I've attached a pic to show what I'm talking about...

Can that lower part of the display (the cables) be removed?

*thanks to ifixit.com for snagging their image*

I would see if there is any apple authorized service providers around you and give them a call. They will be able to check the MBP 17" technician guide and tell you if it is a whole display swap or just a wire swap.

You can download the guide here.

Thanks so much! I'll read through that today.

So, it looks like the cable assembly I broke DOES disconnect.

It's referred to as the Airport Cable but it has no part #. And I'm guessing it only gets sold with a display assembly. Damn.

I imagine that folks who've replaced a smashed display have one of these as an extra part lying around. I sent an email to ifixit.com but they don't have any.

Anyone know someone who's replaced a damaged 17" screen? Or maybe another repair center I can email? The local ones to me haven't had to do a UMCP replacement yet.

Thanks!

Henry
