UMBP to iMAC

Is it possible to use an iMac as a second monitor the a uMBP?
I have been looking at monitors etc and wonder if a cheapo second hand iMAC would be a better option.

Anyone connected their MBP to a iMAC?

the display "output" on the side of imac can't act as "input" that's why they put the mini display port thingy
get a 24" screen from samsung, works like a charm, cost like $400
