For some reason while looking at websites (like not loading i am doing an assignment and they are all loaded) my cpu usage was boosted from about 20% up to between 70 and 80% and stayed there for like half an hour. Activity manager said it was firefox. What is that all about?

nope no flash. just kinda did it for a while then dropped off again. it was a bit weird. oh well little things like that aren't going to make me drop firefox. i <3 it

Yeah, I see that Firefox uses a lot of CPU on my laptop too. It's also slow to load compared to Safari, and pages don't scroll as smoothly. I'm used to it, though, and the plugins are great, so I'll stick with it. I haven't tried Minefield yet. That's supposedly a lot faster.
