Hoping someone can give me some factual advice on this.

right now ipad running 3.2 jailbroken with spirit.

i want to update to new ios4.2 and have no desire to jailbreak again.

can i just do an update in itunes?

i am worried i am going to brick the ipad.

not sure if there is a special process to un jailbreak ipad.

any help much appreciated.

Doesn't iTunes see the modified firmware and say it can't be restored?

Do you mean to simply allow the 4.2x upgrade to happen instead of "restore"?

No, iTunes doesn't say such a thing. Restoring as new is what I think he is asking, and that would be the best road to take.

No, it doesn't. But if it gives you any trouble, put it in DFU mode and restore. If you don't know how, google it.

That will work, but the poster I was responding to wanted to "wipe everything clean." in order to do that, you restore rather than update.

Worked perfectly did a restore but do not backup you need to wipe everything out and start fresh which i think is the best way anyway. No problems here

spirit jailbreak 3.2 to factory 4.2 no problem :D

Did the same yesterday, finally got it working, turned into a big kerfuffle to be honest, first go "bricked" it, ended up having to do a restore from backup which took all bloody night

at least i dont appear to have lost any savegames or data, altho all my apps are jumbled up again and i have to resync my music.

god bless itunes backup

You cant brick these devices.

You also do not have to restore new when you install 4.2.
